Barbara Winkler, of Bellflower, was honored by Cabot Creamery Cooperative, best known as Makers of The World’s Best Cheddar, for her selfless volunteerism creating quilts for military veterans through Quilts of Valor, a nationwide group of quilters.

Cheryl Guacci has been stitching up garments since she first learned to sew in junior high Home Economics classes. Encouraged by her mom who sewed and inspired by a high school teacher, she pursued a degree in Home Economics Education. Today she is faculty.

Claudia Dallas Gomez is a local-grown artist, born & raised in Long Beach. She has been a sewist since grade school and by the time she graduated from Millikan High School, she had tackled advanced tailoring. Claudia has a BFA in Design.

Danielle Jorda is a part-time children’s sewing teacher. She has been sewing since middle school and really embraced quilting over the past three years. She even won Home Economic Student of the year for LBUSD in middle school!

Dawn started sewing over 44 years ago, with the help of her patient mother. Growing up, she made all of her clothes partly because she always wanted to be different and because she was so tall that ready-made clothes never fit.
