Copper or Cuprium? It’s all Elemental!

Susan Slesinger recently participated in the Elements Challenge at Fifteen Quilts, a group of like-minded textile artists from various places throughout the world, who have come together to participate in art quilt challenges.

Copper Element

Susan chose the element of Copper as the theme of her entry quilt. This quilt was created using a different order than she usually follows. Hand-dyed cotton fabric was densely quoted with fine silk thread, then machine embroidery and appliqués were stitched over the quilted fabric. Finally, the piece was embellished with details.

The kettle is raw-edge fusible and the handle is couched soutache, using a Bernina foot. A bead was added to the handle, and copper Swarovski hot-fix crystals were used on the arrows.
